Awards shortlist for memorial website

A memorial website white-labelled across 30 Northcliffe newspaper websites has been short-listed for two prestigious awards.

www.lastingtribute.co.uk is a finalist in the Product Development of the Year category in the Data Publishers Association’s annual awards.

The website has also been shortlisted for the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Since it was launched by Associated Northcliffe Digital in May last year, Lasting Tribute has amassed more than a million tributes and receives just under two million page views per month from 170,000 unique users.

The site works with some of Northcliffe Media’s local weekly and daily newspapers to carry their obituary notices and has white label versions on newspaper websites across the UK.

Visitors to Lasting Tribute can also register and upload their own photographs and tributes to lost loved ones.

Operations director Elaine Pritchard said: “The Derby-based team behind Lasting Tribute works very hard to ensure that the website is a secure and respectful place for people to share their memories of loved ones and those in the public eye.

“We have been very touched by the feedback we receive from families who tell us how much Lasting Tribute has helped them come to terms with their loss.”

Lasting Tribute also has a page for every British soldier who has died in the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

When the 100th British soldier was killed in Afghanistan, a Heroes of Afghanistan application was produced to sit on sister Northcliffe websites and other external websites.

Other recent developments include the ability to add a virtual daffodil for Marie Curie Cancer Care and a virtual star for a child to support the work of When You Wish Upon a Star.

The awards ceremony takes place in Brighton on October 23.
