Press snappers win their stripes – more exam success for trainees

Three press photographers and two photojournalists passed the National Certificate Examination in May to successfully add to their industry credentials.

Seven people – five press photographers and two photo-journalists – sat the photography exam at Sheffield College.

The successful press photography candidates were:

Alex Hannam Leicester Mercury
Benjamin Hussain Hereford Times
Stuart Walker Cumbrian Newspapers

The photojournalists were:

Madhuri Karia Lancashire Telegraph
Anna Lythgoe Gloucestershire Echo

Alex Hannam and Benjamin Hussain were awarded distinctions for their advance projects.

Chief examiner Peter Dash said that all candidates passed their practical tests on the day.

But he added: “The two other sections (Portfolio of twelve pictures and an Advance Project – double page tabloid spread with story) were generally successful.

“The examiners will expect any candidates who failed in either of these sections to pass on a re-sit following further training and experience.”
