Journalism student signs Sky Sports man for rugby league website

A first year journalism student at the University of Central Lancashire who runs his own rugby league website LastTackle.com has made a big-name signing.

Sky Sports journalist Chris Warren has agreed to write a fortnightly column for James Gordon’s site – which has also attracted sponsorship from web design company Code 13 Consulting.

James – who also edits a fanzine for Widnes rugby fans – created LastTackle.com after undertaking a work experience placement at football website 4thegame.com.

He said: “It occurred to me that there was no rugby league equivalent to what ‘4 the game’ provides for football fans and that I could really take the idea forward.

“Chris Warren has agreed to write a fortnightly column for us, which is great for Last Tackle and shows that were are becoming well established.

“Code 13 Consulting commended my determination and passion for the game and that’s why they came on board. They are helping me to market and advertise the site.”

James started writing a youth column for the Warrington Guardian when he was 14 and also wrote match reports for the junior football league games that he played in.

His ambition is to work as a sports journalist and one day run Last Tackle professionally and “make it THE place all rugby league fans go first”.

James said: “I look at how far the site has come and think what it could be like in ten years. I’ve met some good contacts and inspirational people through the work I’ve done so far and I can only build on that.”
