Journalism hopefuls to get industry insight

Journalism hopefuls are being given the chance to get an insight into the industry at a special media careers day in Glasgow.

Thousands of people who want to work in newspapers, online or in TV or radio are expected to descend on the city’s Royal Concert Hall later this month when a range of exhibitions, seminars and hands-on demos will be held.

During the day visitors will be able to speak to working journalists, and ask for advice on getting a foot in the door and getting the right training.

Seminars will include ‘working in newspapers’ and ‘becoming a print journalist’ and visitors will also be able to try their hand at becoming a football commentator or weather presenter.

The BBC’s head of recruitment communications, Roger Hammett, said: “No matter what aspect of the media industry you’re interested in, you will find it here.

“It is the only event that will bring together as many and varied representatives of the media under one roof in this area this year. So there will be no better opportunity to get your career in the media off to a great head start.”

The event is open to anyone interested in a career in the media industry and is especially aimed at those aged 16+, students in further and higher education and job changers.

It will runs from 11.00am until 4.30pm on February 22. Tickets cost £3 in advance and £5 on the day. For more information visit:
