Cash help for trainees

Student journalists are being invited to apply for two bursaries to help with their training.

The John Buchanan Bursary offers a single grant of £100 towards NCTJ training expenses.

It is available to students currently on an NCTJ course at Brighton, Crawley, East Surrey and Highbury colleges.

The bursary was been set up by John’s widow. He was a journalist working for both local and national titles, including the West Sussex County Times and the Sunday Express.

To apply students should send a CV and brief outline of their training programme to date and aspirations for the future to The Trustees, John Buchanan Bursary, 10 Cricketfield Road, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 1TE.

Meanwhile, The Leach Trust has established a bursary scheme that will enable three disabled graduates to study for a one-year post-graduate course in broadcast production or broadcast/print journalism.

They must already have won a place on a one year PTC/NCTJ or BJTC accredited post-graduate course in broadcast or print journalism.

Application forms are available from Mary Flaherty, WORKABLE, 67-71 Goswell Road, London EC1V 7EP.
