Winners applauded

Regional newspapers were honoured for sales increases at the Newspaper Society’s Newspaper Sales and Promotions Conference and Exhibition.

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph won the Bristol Evening Post & Press Award for Best Evening Newspaper, and the Johnston Press Award for newspapers with a circulation less than 40,000, for a 3.2% increase year-on-year.

The South Wales Evening Post won the Eastern Counties Newspapers Award with a 0.72% increase for evening newspapers with circulation between 40,000 and 80,000.

The Paisley Daily Express won the Trinity Mirror Morning Newspaper Award and the Northcliffe Newspapers Special Merit Award for daily newspapers, with an increase of 8.6%.

The newspapers were judged by base sales – news trade and subscription copies only. All bulk sales including special editions have been excluded.

Awards were also handed out at the gala dinner, which rounded-off the two-day conference and exhibition, for sales promotions.

The Yorkshire Evening Post won both of the top awards: the Sales Promotion Campaign of the Year for the Bus, Bath and Train Size campaign and the Innovative Campaign of the Year for the Posters Alive campaign.

Winners of the Community Newspapers of the Year were the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, Evening Herald (Plymouth) and the Nottingham Evening Post.
