Wilts weekly names its editor

Andy Sambidge, (left), has been appointed as the new editor of the Wiltshire Times and West & North Wilts Star.

Currently editor of Newsquest’s East Wales Weeklies – part of the group’s Wales and Gloucestershire region – he will take up his new position in Trowbridge in February.

Andy, (35), replaces Toby Granville who left the award-winning Wiltshire Times to become assistant editor at the Oxford Mail in October.

Among the titles edited by Andy for the last three years are the paid-for Free Press Series, the free Campaign Series and a glossy magazine, Monmouthshire County Life.

The Free Press recently celebrated its highest-ever weekly sales figure with the October 16 edition selling a total of 14,439 copies across its four editions of Chepstow, Pontypool, Monmouth and Abergavenny. The Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow titles are all currently in the UK’s top five best performing weekly newspapers (ABC Jan-June 2004) while the Pontypool title is the current Newsquest Weekly Newspaper of the Year (64 pages and under).

Karen Crockett, publisher of the Wiltshire Times and West & North Wilts Star, said: “We are looking forward to Andy arriving in Trowbridge to join our award-winning team.”

  • The Wiltshire Times has a weekly sale of 19,601 copies (ABC Jan-June 2004).
