This front page splash, on Derbyshire weekly paper the Peak Times, looked very attractive sitting on the newsagent’s shelves.
Headlined, Castleton – ‘The Gem of the Peaks’, the story was accompanied by pictures of the ‘village’.
All was well until the following week when a keen-eyed reader rang to tell them that she had lived in Castleton all her life and was adament the pictures definitely didn’t show her home village.
That raised the question of where was the village depicted in the photos?!
The original photos were in fact captioned Castleton – and every department which dealt with the page had no reason to think otherwise… until the phone call.
More telephone calls ensued to the photographer, who regularly snaps villages on his travels, for the paper’s weekly ‘Mystery Photo’ competition. Unfortunately he couldn’t remember where he had taken the photos. And one week later, the mystery remains.
So, it’s over to the readers of the Peak Times – do you recognise this village???
