The Western Daily Press is to bring back its Bath edition, following the announcement that its sister paper, the Bath Chronicle, is to switch to weekly publication.
Andy Wright, editor of the Bristol-based Daily Press, is to hire four new staff – a reporter and photographer who will be based in Bath at the Chronicle’s office, and a sub-editor and sports sub/writer who will be based in Bristol.
He told holdthefrontpage that the WDP Bath edition would work to complement the Chronicle’s new weekly offering, and would appear for the first time on September 22 – the day after the last daily issue of the Chronicle is due to appear.
The WDP currently serves Bath with its late city edition. It had previously had a Bath edition which was scrapped a few years ago, when its own Bath office closed.
The aim is that the new dedicated Bath edition will change front and back pages with at least one page of Bath news inside.
Andy said: “We recognise that some of our readers will still be looking for a daily paper and we would rather it was the WDP than a national.
“We are making a significant investment in introducing a new edition and obviously with a dedicated reporter and photographer there will be a significant increase in coverage.”
