West End beckons young stars

Young stars of the South Wales Evening Post’s charity show, The Best Is Yet To Come, are heading for London’s West End.

Some 150 entertainers, aged four to 18, will perform at Her Majesty’s Theatre in the Haymarket on August 27.

All proceeds will go to the Daily Mail Prostate Cancer Appeal Fund and ChildLine Cymru/Wales.

Evening Post children’s writer Alex Frith has organised many shows at Swansea’s Grand Theatre over the years which have helped raise more than £100,000 for local charities, including the Evening Post Cancer Appeal.

Her latest, The Best Is Yet To Come, has been a hit at the Grand and after deciding that she wanted a special way for young people from Swansea to celebrate the millennium she pulled a few strings and managed to acquire Her Majesty’s – where Phantom of the Opera plays six days a week – for the one-off performance.

Mrs Frith’s Bumbles of Mumbles stories have been a popular feature in the Post since 1981.
