Weekly's special edition brings readers news of local bombing suspect

The Bucks Herald produced a special Friday edition to bring its readers news of a dramatic police raid on its patch by the anti-terrorism unit investigating the London bombings.

The weekly broadsheet had already published on Wednesday when it emerged that the fourth London bombing suspect is from Aylesbury.

And in response to the news Herald staff quickly got to work on a 12-page A3 supplement, full of reaction, in-depth reports and photographs.

The finished product was printed in the early hours of Friday, and was then wrapped around the remaining copies of The Bucks Herald that were still out on sale at newsagents and supermarkets.

Editor David Summers said: “One of our reporters, Damien Lucas, was driving through Aylesbury at about 7pm that night when he was met with a virtual army of police cars, riot vans and armoured trucks.

“Doing a quick U-turn, he followed them and discovered they were raiding a house in Aylesbury in connection with the London bombings.

“We quickly dispatched a photographer, and were there almost immediately, allowing us to get immediate reaction and photographs hours before any other media was on the scene.

“It later transpired that it was the home of the fourth London bomber, Germaine Lindsay.

“Staying on site until the early hours, the next day we started work on the supplement. Following all the angles as they developed throughout the day, the news team worked brilliantly to produce 12 pages of reaction, in-depth reports and excellent photographs.

“It was an incredible effort by everyone involved, and one that we could all be proud of.”
