The Western Mail will unveil a vibrant new look tomorrow.

  • The broadsheet paper’s content has also been refreshed following the appointment of editor Alan Edmunds, who joined the paper in September, and Neil Bennett, who became deputy editor last December.

The relaunch has taken months of planning, and after asking readers what they wanted, staff began to create the new paper, while continuing to consult readers every step of the way to ensure it appealed to a family audience and broader age.

Managing director Keith Dye said he was looking forward to introducing readers to the new-look title.

He said: “Our aim throughout this process has been to improve and modernise the national newspaper of Wales while retaining our long-established reputation for first-class journalism which sets the Welsh agenda and we firmly believe that goal has been achieved.

“We feel sure that the changes to the design, format and content will revitalise the title and are confident that the people of Wales will enjoy and be proud of their new improved national newspaper.”

A full-colour, broadsheet supplement will accompany each day’s paper, with Sport Wales carrying stories and analysis of Welsh sport every Monday.

Tuesdays will see WM, packed with articles on health, beauty, careers, entertaining and entertainment, style and shopping, Wednesdays will see Business Wales on Thursdays there will be a jobs supplement called Appointments, together with Education Wales.

On Fridays Box Office will bring a mix of arts and entertainment previews, reviews and listings and the Mail’s Saturday magazine will bring up-to-date seven-day TV listings, plus a host of features.

New writers and columnists have joined its team, including big Welsh names like Gareth Edwards, Lowri Turner and David Emanuel. And the Mail’s coverage for farmers has also been improved with special new pages every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

  • To promote the new look a multi media promotional campaign has been developed by the paper’s marketing team, together with a local advertising agency.

A series of breakfast presentations have also been held to give local businesses the chance to hear details of new-look title.
