A number of newspapers are involved in a process to officially recognise the National Union of Journalists after work by the union for staff to be able to negotiate together on pay and conditions.

The Solihull Times and News chapel has won union recognition after owners Trinity Mirror agreed to incorporate it into the Coventry bargaining unit.

Two chapels at Northcliffe are also taking steps towards to union recognition.

In Stoke staff are awaiting a decision from the Central Arbitration Committee – the Government tribunal which rules on union recognition, while in Leicester union reps have submitted the official letter to management to start the process.

After the Press Association last week announced it was moving more jobs from London to its headquarters at Howden, East Yorkshire, campaigners have collected 67 more signatures to a petition calling for the company to recognise the union. When half of the staff have signed up, the recognition procedure can begin.
