Ukranian visitors at the Mercury

A group of Ukranians, involved in a major environmental project, have visited the Leicester Mercury’s offices to hear about the Turning The Tide initiative.

The Leicester project saw the Mercury working in partnership with the city council and Leicester eco-charity Environ to raise awareness of the simple steps people can take to lead a more planet-friendly life.

Last year, Turning The Tide won the NatWest Public Information Initiative Award.

Judges praised its “quirky, innovative approach and hoped that it would be a model for campaigns elsewhere.”

It co-ordinated campaigns on water-saving, cutting car use, recycling and other green issues.

The Ukranian group is working on a three-year programme in the Donetsk region of the Ukraine.
