Two step up the ladder at Wales and Western

Two senior editorial appointments have been announced in Newsquest’s Wales and Western region.

Ryland James (26) has been appointed deputy sports editor of the South Wales Argus.

And Sian Matheson, (22), has been appointed deputy chief sub-editor for the region’s weeklies central subbing unit.

Ryland joined the Newport-based daily in March 2001 after working for anumber of titles including the High Wycombe Leader and the Clacton Gazette.

He has reported on rugby, soccer and athletics for the Argus and covered the World Athletic Championships in Edmonton, Canada, earlier this year.

Sian has been a member of the central subs team, which handles the editorial production of 12 paid-for and free weekly titles across the Wales and Western region, since December 1999.

She previously worked as a reporter on Newsquest’s Gazette series, based in Dursley.

Regional managing editor Gerry Keighley said: “I am delighted to be able to recognise the hard work of two of our brightest young talents.”
