Trinity titles team up for sporting venture

The Coventry Evening Telegraph has teamed up with sister title the Racing Post in the first venture of its kind at Trinity Mirror.

The regional and national titles worked together to mark the opening of a new greyhound stadium in Coventry, jointly producing a supplement which appeared in both titles.

The eight-page pull-out, which carried each newspaper’s branding on the front page, was designed by Telegraph subs, with copy and pictures also coming from the Coventry team while the Racing Post added its expertise with comment pieces from four of its writers.

The project came together after the stadium’s operation manager, who knew the Evening Telegraph and Racing Post are sister publications, got in touch to ask about a supplement to appear in each.

Evening Telegraph editor Alan Kirby said: “The extremely high quality of the supplement was down to our collaborative approach to the project.

“As a result of our close co-operation we have gained valuable revenue for both titles and greatly enhanced our reputation with the owners of the new stadium.”

The supplement is just one example of how the Racing Post and Trinity Mirror’s regional titles are working together for mutual benefit, and during the Cheltenham Festival several regionals carried a Racing Post betting preview, pictures from photographer Edward Whitaker and a half-price voucher for the racing title.

In addition, the coverage of major sports events is now augmented in many of the group’s regional dailies by a sports column penned by Racing Post writers.
