The Newspaper Society is set to install Trinity Mirror Regionals managing director Stephen Parker as its next vice-president.

He is already chairman of the Society’s powerful political, editorial and regulatory affairs committee, and has been put forward by its council as the next vice-president.

Subject to approval at the annual meeting on May 6, Stephen (right) will succeed John Robertson as vice-president. John Robertson will take over from the Society’s current president, Tim Bowdler, on July 1.

Stephen is a main board director of Trinity Mirror plc.

He was previously managing director of the Northern Region of Trinity Mirror’s regional newspaper division, and has held posts at the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo, the Newcastle Chronicle and Journal and within Thomson Regional Newspapers.

The Newspaper Society labels itself “the voice of Britain’s regional and local press”, and represents around 1,300 daily and weekly, paid-for and free, newspaper titles in the UK.
