Mark Clayton is to join Trinity Mirror as editorial development manager for its regional titles.

Currently production editor at the Leicester Mercury, he will work with editors across the group on editorial best practice, including newsroom structures, best use of technology and product development across the division.

Mark (right) has worked at the Mercury for 16 years, in a number of senior roles.

Prior to taking on his current post he had also been county editor, responsible for five separate daily editions, features editor and assistant editor (production and design).

He will report to Trinity Mirror regionals editorial director Neil Benson.

Neil said: “I’m delighted that someone with Mark’s depth of experience is joining the team.

“He’s a great signing for us, as we address the challenge of a rapidly-changing media landscape.”

Based in Liverpool, Mark will also work closely with Jon Brown, recently appointed head of multimedia in Trinity Mirror’s North West region.

Jon is leading a newsroom transformation project which will turn the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo’s Merseyside newsroom into a multimedia centre, gathering and delivering content across a range of channels, including online and mobile telephony, as well as traditional print media.

Mark succeeds Darren Thwaites, who is now editor of the Evening Gazette in Teesside.
