Tributes paid to well-known journalist

William Hunter, a former journalist with The Herald in Glasgow, has died. He was 72.

Willie, as he was known to his friends, spent 31 years with The Herald as a columnist, diarist and business editor and also worked as a financial correspondent in London.

He was also well-known by staff at his home-town newspaper, the Paisley Daily Express, which he frequently visited.

Former Express editor Jim Neil said: “A genuine Buddie through and through, Willie was a real character with a warm personality and was a credit to his profession.

“I shall always remember his visits to the Express office and his pride in his native town and its football team. Paisley is a sadder place with his passing.”

William was a keen supporter of St Mirren Football Club and one of his many literary achievements was writing the centenary history of the team.

A widow, William and is survived by son Stephen and daughter Sian.
