Trainees online for The Budget

Trainee journalists at the Editorial Centre, Hastings, are setting up a website to cover Gordon Brown’s third Budget tomorrow.

The site will carry local reaction to the Budget measures as well as the details. It is part of the 46th pre-entry journalism course at the centre run by Peter Sands.

Barclays Bank, one of Hastings’ largest employers, will be helping in the venture. One of their financial experts will be on hand to interpret the business view of the Budget.

Head of pre-entry training Graham Cole said: “We thought we would take advantage of one of the major set-pieces of the year falling within the 15 weeks of this course to get the trainees used to planning and covering a major event for real. Obviously the best way to do this was to set up a website.”

The trainees from Bath, Bristol, Ipswich, Norwich and Hastings have been planning the event as part of the journalism course which also includes shorthand, law and government.

The site will be www.hastings-news.co.uk

The site may be used in subsequent courses for other news and reaction stories.
