Town and country

Aerial photographs of Devon have gone on sale to readers of two local newspapers.

The pictures were commissioned to mark the Millennium by the Mid- Devon Gazette and the North Devon Journal.

And the titles have published almost 100 of the pictures in a special publication, Mid and North Devon From The Air 2000.

The pictures, 30 of which are in colour, celebrate the rich variety of communities and environment across more than 2,000 square miles of one of the country’s lushest and most picturesque counties.

The publishers have also sneaked in a few from just over the county borders!

The paper boasts: “From ancient farmland to hilltop hamlet and bustling towns, our pictures chronicle the diversity of life on this wonderful land.

“They form part of a larger Millennium archive which we aim to feature separately from time to time.”

They show everything from beautiful green countryside to seaside holiday destinations and the shape of historic towns from the sky.

The pictures from the air are being published at regular intervals in the two papers. Colour reprints of the photos are also available.
