Thumbs-down for revamp

A new design for Lichfield civic hall has been rejected in a Mercury poll.

A massive 87 per cent voted against the plans in the Lichfield Mercury survey.

Hundreds rang the hotline to air their views – but the 13 per cent in favour feel that if the plans fall through it would be a missed opportunity.

One of the problems is that the plans already on show involve the felling of a mature horse chestnut tree – although some believe it could be incorporated into the design.

A publicity roadshow is now taking the revamp plans to a wider audience as part of a full public consultation.
