Theatre treat for MS teenager

A teenager battling multiple sclerosis – who was the focus of the Bath Chronicle’s NHS Postcode Lottery campaign – has enjoyed a VIP theatre trip after winning her fight for fairness.

The newspaper took up the case of Stephanie Millward, an 18-year-old former swimming champion, after she discovered she could not get funding from Wiltshire Health Authority for a drug which would help ease her symptoms. If she lived just a few miles down the road in the Avon Health Authority area, she would have been eligible to receive the drug.

After a vigorous campaign, Stephanie won funding for the drug – beta interferon.

She was then featured in the Chronicle’s regular Window Shopping feature, where readers reveal what they would buy if they could.

Stephanie mentioned that she would love to see The Rocky Horror Show because she had never been to the theatre.

The Chronicle decided to send her to the theatre along with her mum, sister and brothers.

The morning afterwards, Stephanie said: “Thank you so much to the Chronicle for giving us all such a fantastic time. I am already wondering when I can go again.”
