Editorial trainer and consultant David Scott said that when it comes to poaching newspaper staff it can be “dog eat dog” within the media industry.
“When I was a junior you did not break your indentures – no other newspaper would have touched you.
“But six months into training they are going off into broadcasting, which means the company has lost the money invested. I have sympathy for the companies that do train them and lose them quickly.”
David, a former editor, managing editor and managing director, said: “There is a lot of training going on but one or two groups are very bad at it. Some are very good at it and offer a career structure and full training programme.”
