The chips are down

A slightly fishy undercover investigation by the Bucks Herald has shown the chips are down across Aylesbury.

The newspaper’s undercover reporter visited seven fish and chip shops in the area and asked the Trading Standards office of Bucks County Council to carry out weight tests on the portions of chips bought.

The test didn’t consider taste – merely the size of the portions – and the results raised a few eyebrows back at Trading Standards HQ.

The investigation was carried out as part of National Chip Week and showed massive differences in the sizes of portions being served in the area.

The newspaper revealed the names of the chippies that leave you full up – and also those who leave you wanting more.

Trading Standards shared the surprise at the results and admitted customers would get a fairer deal if there was a guide on how many chips should be in the portion.

Officer Rod Payne found out that the chip shop he usually buys from came in last for serving the lightest load of chips.

But he promised to keep buying them there and said: “It is fascinating and I did not expect this much difference at all, I am really surprised.”
