Telegraph staff welcome Martin as new editor

Staff at the Greenock Telegraph have welcomed new editor Martin Biddle who has taken charge of the paper this week.

He joins the Telegraph from his previous position of editor of its sister title the Slough and Windsor Observer.

Martin, (33), takes over the hotseat from acting editor Stewart Peterson who replaced former editor David Carnduff.

Martin’s career in journalism began in 1996 when he joined the Slough and Windsor Observer as a trainee reporter.

He became deputy editor in January 2000 before being promoted to editor in April 2001 when he took over from Janice Raycroft, who left the paper after 21 years in charge.

At that time he was the youngest editor in the Observer’s parent group, Clyde and Forth Press.

Sally Stevens has been named as Martin’s replacement at the Slough and Windsor Observer and will take up the post on August 23.

The Observer is being edited in the interim by assistant editor Mike Sim and chief reporter Rebecca Johnson.
