Tamsin on top of Somerset's news

Tamsin Jones has been appointed as news editor at Newsquest’s Taunton centre.

In her new role, Tamsin will be responsible for the editorial content of the Somerset County Gazette and its sister free paper, The Star, which covers Taunton and Wellington.

Tamsin, (34), is currently news editor of sister titles the Bridgwater Mercury, Bridgwater Star and Burnham & Highbridge Weekly News.

Previously a news reporter on the North Wales Weekly News, Bristol Evening Post and Western Daily Press, she takes up the new role at the end of the month.

She has overseen news gathering at the Bridgwater office for three years and in that time has driven forward a number of initiatives including increased pagination, launch of new editions and improved supplements.

During her time in Bridgwater Tamsin has teamed up with police to aid two murder investigations.

She has also played an active role in the community and has served as a member of the Bridgwater Education Achievement Zone and Sydenham Regeneration Budget scheme, helped launch the annual Somerfest arts festival, and also received a civic award for organising a raft of activities to celebrate the town’s 800th anniversary.

Tamsin said she was delighted to take on the new role in Taunton and was looking forward to working with the news team and building links with the community.

She replaces Alison Hulls, who is remaining as editor of the Taunton centre’s Limited Edition magazine.
