Swift action after late tip-off

Motors rep Donna Hookens is the toast of the reporters at the Taunton Times after providing them with a tip for a colourful story.

But she needs to brush up on her deadlines!

Donna told staff how her little nephew Keir reacted badly to a brightly coloured suncream which turned his blond head a violent shade of violet – but unfortunately she’d left it until just before the paper’s deadline.

Reporter Mark Ford came up trumps by immediately tracking Keir down to a relative’s home seven miles away and dispatching photographer Steve Monk to reach the store that sold the suncream minutes before it closed for the day.

As a result the Taunton Times managed to get the story and picture in, scooping other media. It duly made the nationals two days later.

Editor Debbie Rundle said: “We are always prepared to strip out stories andremake pages if a story is worth it – this one certainly was.

“And our production department is always willing to go the extra mile for us.

“Donna may have left it a little late but she told us – and that’s the main thing.”
