Super-local websites get warm welcome from community leaders

Community leaders are welcoming the Lancashire Telegraph’s drive to create super-local websites, providing readers with news from their postcode area.

The ‘Your East Lancashire’ websites were launched last month with an initial group of 14 East Lancashire communities and villages.

Online correspondents in areas such as Blackburn town centre, Corporation Park, Blackburn, Burnley Wood, Haslingden, Barrowford and Rishton are already informing people in their area about what is going on.

The mini websites will eventually be rolled out to cover every village and suburb in the circulation area and give an opportunity to post news and views as well as community events directly online.

Blackburn with Darwen Council leader Colin Rigby said it would boost the authority’s plans to bring the community together.

He said: “”It is a useful tool to get to the grass routes of communities.”

Deputy Mayor of the Ribble Valley, Coun John Hill, said: “Everyone can tap into the site, it is an excellent way to involve the whole community.”

And Hyndburn Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: “It is good that people can look into and about East Lancashire as it has a great deal to offer and will give a boost to the area.”
