Super League club for Warrington

The Warrington Guardian’s Save Our Club campaign has received boosters from an open day, a stadium rally and from the local community.

The campaign to save Warrington Wolves Rugby Club wants to ease the club’s financial difficulties and gather support for a new stadium.

Warrington’s chief operations officer Adam Jude said: “There needs to be a show strength to show that this town wants a Super League team.

“There is more and more talk from Super League that they are actively seeking new franchises so it is essential that the community turns out in force to show that they want a franchise in Warrington.

“The club has been in existence for 121 years. The club was there on that historic day in 1895 when there was the Northern Union breakaway.

“But the club has no God-given right to be in the Super League.”

The club has all sorts of activities planned for the open day including special offers in the bars and merchandise sales.

The Guardian will also launch it’s Helping Hand appeal on the day, when business can buy season tickets and then hand them back for the use of charities and disadvantaged groups to make use of.

The office of the Planning Inspectorate is examining the plans for the new stadium and a Public Inquiry into the details of the proposal should begin in about 14 weeks.

Fans of the club are being encouraged to write to the Planning Inspectorate with a show of support for the proposed ‘People’s Stadium’ before the inquiry is opened.
