Sunshine fund helps out

The Sunshine Fund of the Newcastle Evening Chronicle has given a teenager a new lease of life.

Thirteen-year-old Matthew Crabtree is unable to play with his pals in the street because he has severe learning difficulties.

He also suffers from a hearing problem and only has one lung which means he is often housebound.

But a new swing, purchased with cash from the Fund, means he can play out in the garden and enjoy himself at home.

The Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund has the backing of a number of the area’s biggest companies, including Telewest, BT, Tesco Extra and Harry Ramsden’s, and hundreds of individuals have raised funds.

A deal with Northern Electric mean the firm will make a donation for every person that signs up with them.
