The Sunday Sun, the North-East based Sunday newspaper, is to relaunch next month with a new, three-section format.
With more pages in all sections, the total pagination of the Trinity Mirror title will grow by about 20 per cent.
The main paper will continue to concentrate on news and sport, with more pages allowing more comment and more reports to be featured every week.
A new supplement – mode – will focus on female readers through a range of articles that will include everything from major interviews with inspiring local people to reports on how to look good, from celebrity gossip to love stories. An expanded entertainment section will broaden its appeal even further.
Another innovation will be a third editorially led section – Choice. Positioned as the consumer champion, it will be a guide to lifestyle choices ranging from holidays to cars, jobs to new houses and items for the home to relationships.
Editor Peter Montellier said: “It’s an exciting time – after all, when did any editor last get a chance to add so many pages of new content to their paper?
“Women, young people, sports fans and older citizens, are all in our sights. But most of all, we’re broadening the appeal of a newspaper that’s been serving the region since 1919.”
