Daily Echo editor Ian Murray will be at the helm of a new free Sunday paper for Southampton.

He will carry out the role in addition to his duties at the evening paper, which will use the staff resources already in place at Newspaper House.

The Sunday Metro is set to be launched next week to coincide with the start of the Premiership football season. Southampton’s city council has said Sunday will become the second busiest trading day of the week – and the paper plans to capitalise on this.

The new paper will have its own newsdesk but all the journalists on site will be responsible for seeking out new content for the Sunday title.
