Yorkshire Post journalist Robert Mills has died suddenly, aged 51.

The chief sports writer suffered a heart attack at his home.

In his role at the Yorkshire Post Robert covered the county’s cricket and wrote a Saturday column, Mills on Sport.

He had also written a book, Field of Dreams, which chronicled the history of Headingley cricket ground, including all the Test matches to have been staged there from 1899 to England’s two-day victory over the West-Indies in 2000.

Editor Rachael Campey said: “As the new editor of the Yorkshire Post I did not have the privilege of working with Robert for very long but I admired his work greatly.

“His wisdom and experience of sports reporting, particularly of Yorkshire cricket, was second to none and will leave a lasting legacy of quality journalism that many will aspire to.

“He will be sorely missed by all at the Yorkshire Post.”

Robert leaves a widow, Angela, and three children.
