Stringer tally needs a boost

The Somerset Standard is set to more than double its team of village correspondents.

The paper, which circulates in an area near Bath, is advertising for people who like to pick up the local gossip.

It wants to provide a fully comprehensive news service to all 22,250 readers.

Reporter Debbie Mead said: “Correspondents are not expected to have journalistic skills. All they have to do is know or find out what is going on around them.”

The paper is also willing to invite new recruits to training seminars where they will meet other correspondents from sister papers the Somerset Guardian and the Bath Chronicle, to learn some of the basic skills involved in reporting the news.

There are already ten villages covered by the paper’s network – and the Standard needs to keep up-to-date on a further 20.
