Strike vote delayed pending more talks

Journalists at the Bristol Evening Post and Western Daily Press are to delay a vote on strike action until the New Year.

National Union of Journalists members at the two Northcliffe titles want to allow more time for chapel officials to negotiate with the company over a proposed 36 redundancies.

The job cuts are due to take effect at the end of January as part of Northcliffe’s Aim Higher project to save £30m over the next two years.

Union members wanted more time for discussions over outstanding issues such as the final number of job losses, and the future structure of departments, an issue which the union claims is making it difficult for people to decide whether to opt for redundancy.
