Stress in the workplace

Hardworking staff at the Brentwood Gazette had the chance to relax when journalist Darryl Webber looked into ways of relieving stress in the workplace.

He told readers that recent research by private health body BUPA claimed that UK managers are the most stressed and unhealthy in the world.

In the United States and London, he said, companies were increasingly turning to qualified masseurs to knead away workers’ stress.

To prove the point, Jakki Roberts – a qualified Touch-Pro chair massage practitioner from the Brentwood area – came into the newspaper’s offices to demonstrate her 20-minute ‘mini massage’.

She brought with her the specially-designed massage chair which stressed-out employees sit on as Jakki delivers a massage to the muscles of the neck, shoulders, arms, hands and backs.

Darryl said it was very relaxing experience. He also told readers that the newspaper’s receptionist – Sandy Powell – had a minor back problem and found the massage relieved her tension immediately.
