Some guys have all the luck

The racing editor of the Wolverhampton Express and Star continued his winning streak when, after winning £250,000 on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, his £5 flutter also came in.

John Sexton had thrown a party for his colleagues at the newspaper laying on wine, champagne and food so they could celebrate his win as he returned from a family holiday in America.

The afternoon of celebrating ended with John’s lucky streak landing him more money when he placed a bet after colleague John Hackney spotted a horse called Champagne Rider.

John didn’t have any money on him to place the bet so the tipster lent him £5 of his own – and then watched as the horse came in at odds of 14-1 in the 3.40pm at Wolverhampton.
