Six murderers are walking free: Paper offers reward

Reward money is being stumped up by the Evening Star in a bid to find the killers of six local murder victims.

The Ipswich paper said the killers were walking free – and could be anyone.

The Evening Star wants a new push to find the killers of Joan Albert, Vicky hall, Karen Hales, Doris Shelley, Edna Harvey and Diane Jones.

Editor Nigel Pickover said: “Many months – in most cases years – have passed since the killers struck and still they walk free. They breathe the same air as we do, walk the same streets, sit next to us on the bus, in the office and maybe, even share our lives at home.

“Our reward pledge of £1,000 for each case will go to anyone who helps bring about convictions of the brutal killers who walk around with the false belief that they have escaped their fate.

“Despite huge police investigations into every one of these murders, the killers have yet to be found.

“For their families it is frustrating and bewildering that the culprits are still at large and have somehow managed to disappear into the melting pot of people in everyday life.”

The paper pointed out that Suffolk police had solved many high profile murders and asked what the difference was with these six.

The killers have walked free for a long time and managed to hide from justice. The possibility that someone might be hiding them is one reason behind the lure of a reward.

A police spokesman said that cases were never considered unsolved and that they would always remain open until a killer was caught.

The Evening Star has run its stories together with profiles of all six victims and the circumstances of their deaths.
