Royal message of thanks sent to Star

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have sent a personal message of thanks to the readers and staff of the Shropshire Star ahead of their visit to the county this week.

Her Majesty honoured the newspaper for the local greetings they received in a letter from the Star to welcome the royal party to Shropshire.

Buckingham Palace received a letter from the newspaper on June 27 welcoming the Queen and Duke to the county on behalf of staff and readers.

The reply, sent by the Queen’s private secretary, also said that the royal couple were looking forward to their visit to Shropshire on Thursday.

The Queen will be visiting Telford International Centre and the Duke of Edinburgh visits Woodside before meeting up in Ironbridge to see the newly-refurbished tollhouse on the famous bridge.
