Robbie Williams – up close

The Leicester Mercury has given a kidney patient the chance to see her favourite pop star – up close.

The newspaper gave Jaime Peel two VIP tickets to see Robbie Williams in concert after an appeal from her mother.

The 23-year-old has been battling illness after her body began rejecting a kidney she was given eight years ago.

She needs a new kidney but complications including septicaemia and pneumonia have made her too ill to have the operation.

To cheer her up, Jaime’s mother contacted the Mercury to ask if they could arrange to have Robbie mention her name onstage before the song ‘Angels’.

The newspaper teamed up with the charity ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ and secured two VIP tickets for the star’s London Docklands show later this month.

The tickets, worth £160 each, mean Jaime will be treated like royalty throughout the performance.

Jaime said: “For the last few months I haven’t felt like doing anything because I was so ill. I wanted to give up on everything but the concert was the only thing that kept me going. Now I have something to look forward to again.”
