Rob gets his running shoes on for charity

Tamworth Herald sports editor Rob Tanner joined over 360 runners for the Gate Gallop at Anker Valley.

Rob took part in the seven-mile all-terrain course to raise money for the Road to Recovery fund, set up for Tamworth FC midfielder Nick Colley, who is currently in America receiving treatment for stomach cancer.

Rob said: “I had challenged the Tamworth FC supporters to run with me to raise money for the fund.

“For my efforts I managed to finish in 169th place in a ‘magnificent’ time of 69.09 minutes.”

The turnout for the run was amplified with the addition of the Tamworth FC supporters, organisers of the event hope that this year they will surpass last year’s total amount of £3,000 which was raised for the St Giles Hospice.

“We are really happy with the way the day went and to see so many people enjoying the run really makes the hard work worthwhile,” said Gate Gallop committee member Pete Seedhouse.

The seven-mile run also had a three-mile fun run alternative, Andy Kenchington was the first male to complete the longer course with a finishing time of 38.07 minutes with Anne Brizell as the first woman to complete the course.
