Response to article "crashes" village website

Switched-on readers of the Torquay Herald Express caused a village web site to crash when they all logged on at the same time.

The newspaper published a story about the new Denbury site which features maps, pictures and a history of the village.

But the article caused so much interest that within an hour of the paper hitting the streets, 1,231 people had tried to visit the website.

It had been set up by the Denbury Archive Group and had received only 400 hits in two months before the article was published.

Spokesman Bernie Duggan said: “The system just couldn’t cope. But we have now sorted out the problem and people should be able to log on successfully now.”
