Reporter spends six-month sabbatical in Brazil

Regional press journalist Hannah Wood is spending six months in Brazil, learning Portuguese and reporting on her new-found life in Rio de Janeiro.

Hannah, (26), took a sabbatical from her job as reporter on The Herald in Plymouth after winning a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, which allows recipients to study another language and immerse themselves in another country’s culture.

Since landing almost four months ago she has mastered the language, attending school every weekday.

She has also spent time meeting Rotarians, learning about their projects such as helping improve life in poorer areas of Rio, and has given presentations about her life and work in England.
