Reporter mugged in busy street

A Bath Chronicle reporter has told of her shock at becoming the victim of a mugging in a busy city centre street.

Amy Wilson, (26), was surrounded by a gang of youths and knocked to the ground before having her bag stolen.

She was left with bruising and scratches as bank cards, money and a mobile phone were stolen, along with other personal items.

Amy had been walking home along busy Westgate Street just after 10.30pm when the incident happened.

She said: “I quite often walk home and never had a problem before.

“I saw there was a group of guys up ahead but I did not take much notice of them. When I got near, one of the group tripped me and knocked me down.

“I was on the floor and they were standing around me. I think there were about four or five in the group. Someone helped me up and then they ran off down a side street with my bag.

“I was shaken and am still shocked that it happened. I felt vulnerable.

“The street was quite busy and that is why I did not imagine it would happen there.

“It makes you realise that if you are a woman you have to be so careful.”
