Reporter beats the odds

Reporter David Thomas beat the odds when he had his car stolen – twice in one day!

The Gloucester Citizen man told readers that an average of one car is stolen every day in the county.

But he related his tale of woe to readers after his vehicle went missing from outside his home, only to be found a burnt-out shell later the same day.

He called the police, who told him his vehicle had been left wrecked at the side of the road in Elmore Lane, Stonebench.

He said: “I was also informed that it was now my responsibility to remove the car from where it now lay.

“This was obviously bad news, but I was still unaware of the full tale of what had happened to my car.”

He’d called the police on Friday, but they called on him again on Sunday to imform him his vehicle was stolen and currently abandoned in Goshawk Road, Quedgeley.

David was a little puzzled by this – and informed the officers that he’d seen his car burnt out in Stonebench.

The three of them were left scratching their heads until the truth dawned… that the car had first been stolen on Friday, abandoned early that day in Quedgeley, then taken again before he’d had chance to reclaim it.

He said: “Apparently a change of shift had taken place at the station by then and no-one had linked the two incidents until the police spoke to me on Sunday and then the picture became clear.”

But one good piece of news has come out of the incident – the person whose house the Fiesta was finally dumped outside has volunteered to dispose of it, saving David the £150 towing fee.
