Readers oppose wind power

Staff at the North Devon Journal have been blown away by the results of a survey they conducted to see whether or not readers wanted wind farms built in the area.

The newspaper carried out its exclusive poll after controversial plans were announced to build two clusters of 246-ft high turbines at Bratton Fleming and West Down.

The paper found that the vast majority of people were opposed to the proposals. Out of 604 votes cast, only 146 (24 per cent) were in favour.

Now it remains to be seen if public pressure will force the plans to be shelved.

Journal managing editor Andy Cooper said: “It is an intriguing response to this fundamentally important issue and I am sure those charged with making decisions on it will look at the results with interest.”
