Readers get a healthy 36-page special

Readers of the Leicester Mercury have been given a comprehensive insight into hospitals and the services they provide, in a free publication produced by the paper.

Your Hospital is a 36-page supplement put together in partnership with the Dr Foster organisation, which provides independent information about healthcare providers in the UK.

The guide takes readers through the healthcare minefield, covering services available in Leicestershire and the Midlands as a whole.

Statistics are listed and analysed with hospital performance tables, operation waiting times, bed availability and Government targets all put under scrutiny.

The supplement also guides the reader through different types of healthcare – from a visit to your local GP to making outpatient visit or undergoing a major operation.

It advises who to seek out for each type of illness and covers the major health problems the hospital and its patients have to deal with, in sections of the supplement devoted to cancer and heart disease treatment.

Deputy editor Jeremy Clifford, who played a large part in putting the supplement together, said: “Ourselves and the Western Morning News have both put out pilot editions.

“We are hoping it will prove successful enough to for us to gain sponsorship to be able to produce other supplements.

“Dr Foster are very keen to do so, and we have also enjoyed a good response from the readers and local health authorities, who have found the hospital guide very helpful and interesting.”

The guide also gives background information on all the hospitals in the region, with all the statistics and contact details.

And for those who are unhappy with the healthcare they have been given there is advice on what to do about that as well.
