Reader loyalty at EDP

A Norfolk couple has hit the headlines for remaining loyal to the Eastern Daily Press for an amazing 63 years.

Arthur and Daisy Bumfrey claim not to have missed a single issue.

Their obsession began when the storm clouds were gathering over Europe in 1938, on their wedding day, when Arthur started taking the paper because his father had always had it at home.

The couple, who live at Gresham, near Cromer, were handed a thank you bouquet of flowers by the Daily Press north Norfolk chief reporter Richard Batson.

Editor Peter Franzen said: “EDP readers are known for their loyalty but this is remarkable.”

Over the years Arthur has taken in all the local news, and the advertising, which has kept him up-to-date on livestock prices from when he used to keep pigs.

Daisy turns straight to the births’ deaths and marriages.
