Putting the "e" in Echo

Belief in the value of its readers views has prompted the Lincolnshire Echo to set up its own People’s Panel.

Editor Mike Sassi hopes to get together 100 readers who will give their reactions to the major issue of the week.

Volunteers who want to take part must have access to e-mail and be available to comment on a weekly basis.

Once the panellists have been chosen, the People’s Panel will appear on a Monday.

The value of e-mail was also demonstrated when the Echo ran a story about a group of enthusiasts trying to raise £2.5 million to get a Vulcan plane flying again to visit air shows and other events.

Vulcan XH558 left RAF Waddington, near Lincoln, for the last time in March 1993 and is the last bomber of its type in the world still capable of flying.

The Echo gave its backing and launched a campaign called “Help the Vulcan Fly Again”.

Within three days the paper had received 46 e-mails from as far afield as Australia, the USA and the Far East all supporting the campaign.
